RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Gas Worx in Ybor City wins full city council approval Council on Thursday approved a rezoning request for properties at 1502 Nuccio Parkway, 1015 Lily White Court and 1555 Scott St. The rezoning approval allows for the construction of 724 apartments in three buildings. The first phase also includes a 940-space parking garage and 20,000 square feet of retail space.
Thursday’s approval was the second time the development has gone before city council; rezoning requests require two readings and public hearings. At the Dec. 9 hearing, council chairman Orlando Gudes and councilman John Dingfelder voted against the rezoning, citing concerns that it included too few affordable housing units.
Council on Thursday approved the plans 6-0; Gudes voted in favor, and Dingfelder was not present for the vote.
Developer Darryl Shaw, CEO of BluePearl Veterinary Partners, has partnered with Washington, D.C.-based Kettler on developing Gas Worx.
“We are excited to continue moving forward with a development that will not only complement and honor Ybor City’s character and rich history but also help to connect the surrounding neighborhoods,” Graham Tyrrell, Kettler senior vice president, said in a statement. “When completed, Gas Worx will be one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Tampa, with priority given to pedestrians and bike traffic while adding needed greenspace in the city’s urban core.” |
