A significant development in downtown St. Petersburg’s Edge district will break ground in the second quarter of 2022, after a new developer has joined Miami-based PTM Partners on the project.

PTM Partners said this week that it has now partnered with Fort Lauderdale-based DoveHill Capital Management to bring The Edge Collective, a mixed-use development anchored by the Moxy Hotel, to life. The Moxy Hotel, by Marriott, will have 163 rooms and will be the first “lifestyle hotel” in downtown St. Petersburg. St. Pete-based Storyn Studio is the lead architect for the hotel. Concepted and managed by Wurzak Hotel Group, the hotel will feature an indoor-outdoor rooftop dining and nightlife venue with views of downtown.

“In partnership with DoveHill, we are confident that all of the components are now in place to bring our vision of the Edge Collective to fruition,” Nicholas Pantuliano, chief development officer and chief operations officer of PTM, said in a release. “The mixed-use development will offer an innovative and inclusionary destination for the community and tourists to experience, which will further complement the neighborhood’s dynamic offering.”

The Edge Collective will be built on 1.6 acres at 1234-1246 Central Ave. PTM bought the site in October 2019 for $13 million and then put the project on hold when the coronavirus pandemic began. The Moxy Hotel is expected to open in late 2023.

In 2021, the Edge Collective Urban Market Place opened as a temporary shopping experience on the site. Once complete, the hotel will share a common garden with its lobby bar, coffee shop and other retail space. The hotel will have a gym, rooftop pool, bar and restaurant.

“We are very excited to make our fourth Florida investment in the thriving and incredibly dynamic city of St. Petersburg and build upon the visionary investment originally made by PTM,” Jake Wurzak, founder and CEO of DoveHill, said in a release. “Our new project will focus on place-making and will elevate the hospitality experience downtown. The Moxy Hotel will anchor the Edge district’s culturally rich community and will fast become a dining and entertainment hub.”

Once the Edge Collective is complete, the site will include the Moxy Hotel, an outdoor garden, retail strip and a “refurbished four-story building that will feature 17,000 square feet of ground-level retail and restaurant space and commercial space above,” according to PTM.
