RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Construction companies in Tampa, St. Pete merge The decision came after David Reno, founder of Reno Building, and Peter Boyd, founder of Boyd Construction Co., worked together on a project in St. Petersburg last year — the St. Petersburg Distillery at 800 31st St. S. — and realized their well-established companies were a “great match.” Boyd said it was like “taking two puzzle pieces and putting them together.”
“The Reno Boyd Building Co. Brand will continue to offer a diverse portfolio of private and public work,” Reno said. “Pete and I found our cultures were very much alike and by merging we’d be an even stronger regional firm for our clients.”
Boyd said they have seen a large surge in adaptive reuse projects and office space over the last several years and the unique talents found both in Reno and Boyd’s respective groups allow their new company to offer a diverse portfolio for interested clients. Reno Building, founded in 2003, specializes in being an educational, industrial and medical contractor. Boyd Construction, founded in 2009, specializes in hospitality and adaptive reuse construction.
He added that the rapidly evolving market in Tampa Bay has opened the door to clients who no longer are looking for “cookie-cutter” projects. People are thinking outside the box and are asking for builders to bring a variety of specializations to each project.
“The diversification of what we are creating is key right now with just how this industry is going and how much it has changed,” Boyd said. “What this is doing is it's putting us into another level of quality, by coming together with the diverse portfolio both companies have."
The merger means the company will now have two offices — in Tampa and St. Petersburg. Boyd said that Tampa Bay is not just where they work, but is also their home and part of the decision to merge was their intention to invest in the communities they live in.
“Both men started these companies with an ambitious vision, and this merger represents another significant milestone, further enhancing value for all stakeholders,” Alexis Kaloostian, vice president of Reno Boyd Building Co., said. “I anticipate that their individual strengths will combine in a dynamic and successful alliance.”
