Watch Water Street Tampa grow into a mini city

It's been just over three and a half years since developer Strategic Property Partners held a groundbreaking ceremony on what was then Amalie Arena's silver parking lot, promising that the forthcoming JW Marriott hotel was just the beginning of a new era in Tampa.

That new era has arrived rather quickly, a global pandemic notwithstanding, and six new towers have risen on what was previously vacant land surrounding the arena. The new buildings include:

Office tower Thousand & One, 375,000 square feet

Apartment tower Heron, 420 units and 40,000 square feet of retail space, which includes GreenWise Market

Boutique hotel and condos Edition, 172 hotel keys and 37 condos

Apartment tower Cora, 388 units and a woonerf — a Dutch urban street design that will build a social space between Cora and its neighbor — as well as street-level commercial space. Its street-level retail tenants include Chill Bros. Ice Cream and Orangetheory Fitness as well as Small Giant Bar & Restaurant and Wine on Water, two new concepts from Tampa-based Cru Hospitality

Apartment tower 1050 Water Street, 490 units and 32,000 square feet of commercial space

JW Marriott, a 519-key convention hotel

Water Street's first phase also includes the multimillion-dollar redevelopment of two existing properties within the district: the Tampa Marriott Water Street, where a $50 million investment touched everything from guest rooms to heating and cooling systems, and Sparkman Wharf, which was previously known as Channelside Bay Plaza.
