Timpano to reopen refreshed restaurant in Hyde Park Village

A longtime mainstay of South Tampa’s restaurant scene will reopen in Hyde Park Village on Nov. 1.

Timpano Hyde Park — previously Timpano Italian Chophouse — has been closed since the novel coronavirus pandemic shuttered restaurants in 2020. The restaurant has occupied prime real estate in Hyde Park Village, on the corner of West Swann and South Dakota avenues, for nearly 20 years.

The refreshed Timpano is “an authentic Italian kitchen” by day and “Hyde Park’s neighborhood cocktail bar” by night, according to a release from parent company Tavistock Restaurant Collection.

Timpano is now under the direction of executive chef Jason Saldutti and Michael Ferraro, vice president of food and beverage for Tavistock. Saldutti was with Forbici Modern Italian — also located in Hyde Park Village — until late 2020.

Both Saldutti and Ferraro are Italian Americans, Tavistock said.

“To return to my Italian roots to reimagine the Timpano menu with Chef Saldutti was a rewarding experience,” Ferraro said in a statement. “We wanted to recreate the dishes we love by using the most authentic and freshest ingredients while adding a Timpano twist that we believe the Hyde Park community will love.”

Florida dining rooms were shuttered by state order for six weeks in spring 2020 and reopened at reduced capacity in May 2020. Timpano, however, was temporarily closed for more than a year.

Tavistock said Timpano’s new restaurant interior is inspired by The Garden Room at the St. Regis Atlanta. The Garden Room is also a Tavistock concept, and Timpano also features “warm grays, gold fixtures and plush seating with pops of color and live foliage throughout, inspired by the Italian countryside,” according to Tavistock.

“We are thrilled to welcome Timpano back,” Nicole Dee, general manager of Hyde Park Village, said in a statement. “The much-loved restaurant is better than ever before with its new design and menu. We know our tight-knit community will be just as happy as we are to celebrate this reopening.”
