Four Green Fields is closing its iconic pub on West Platt Street and moving to downtown Tampa's Channel district.

The Irish pub announced the move on Facebook on Dec. 2 and said Dec. 12 would be its final night in the South Tampa location. The Channel district location, which was not disclosed, will open "very soon," the restaurant said, and its staff will move to the new restaurant.

Four Green Fields has been in that location since 1992. It is a popular happy hour spot for downtown office workers and a destination for Tampa Bay Lightning fans before home games.

The pub also operates locations in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Tampa International Airport.

The closure is not unexpected. In 2015, St. John's Episcopal purchased the entire South Tampa block that's home to Four Green Fields and its thatched-roof pub, though a timeframe for the closure was never revealed.

When it closes Dec. 12, Four Green Fields will be the second restaurant on that stretch of West Platt Street to close in two weeks. Boca Tampa, a longtime staple of South Tampa's dining scene, recently closed its doors.
