Publix’s West Shore location is opening soon

TAMPA — The Publix at Westshore taking over the old Sports Authority property will be open to shoppers on Feb. 27.

The store at 4900 W Kennedy Blvd. is about 36,000 square feet and includes a pharmacy.

The district along West Shore Boulevard has undergone a recent apartment boom, bringing in hundreds of new units. There also are many nearby office parks with people eager to drop into Publix for quick grab-and-go lunches.

Publix first filed plans to take over the Sports Authority property in 2017 and began demolition of the old complex in early 2019. Although Publix tore down the Sport Authority, the new building is almost the same size. There will be a total of 175 parking spots.
