Bill Edwards selling three-acre tract in St. Petersburg
Property was site of his defunct mortgage company

ST. PETERSBURG - St. Petersburg entrepreneur Bill Edwards is asking $8.9 million for a three-acre tract in west St. Petersburg. Among the buildings on the site was the former headquarters of Edwards' Mortgage Investors Corp., which was one of the nation's largest refinancers of VA loans until it closed several years ago during a legal battle that Edwards recently won.

The property consists of five parcels bounded by Central Avenue and First Avenue S, and 58th and 66th Streets. The buildings total 43,586 square feet and include office buildings and apartments. Current zoning would permit 162 units with more density allowed for affordable housing.

"St. Petersburg is in the middle of a very aggressive growth pattern,'' said Jill Helgren, the listing agent. "This location is well-connected with regional access provided by Interstate 275 and U.S. 19.”

Edwards sold the Tampa Bay Rowdies to the Tampa Bay Rays last year and recently put up for sale a Snell Isle house he owns.
