Topgolf says St. Petersburg spot will open in 2020
Months after Topgolf filed building plans in St. Petersburg, the company plans fall 2020 opening.

ST. PETERSBURG - Get your drivers ready: Topgolf has confirmed it will open a new location in Carrillon.

The high-tech driving range is planning a fall 2020 opening at 220 Carrillon Parkway, but a spokeswoman said a date has not been finalized.

Topgolf opened one of its three-story driving range/restaurant/arcade combo entertainment complexes in Hillsborough County five years ago. Rumbles of its St. Pete location started when Topgolf filed plans in April for a complex at a 12-acre vacant lot in north St. Petersburg.

"Florida has always been important to Topgolf, as we have been connecting communities and creating moments that matter at five venues throughout the state for a number of years," said Topgolf chief development officer Chris Callaway in a statement.

Topgolf announced it also would open a location in Lake Mary, outside Orlando. Construction there has already started. The St. Pete venue will break ground in the "coming weeks," according to a Topgolf news release.

The construction plans call for a total of 67,521 square feet with about 3,800 square feet set aside for restaurant space. The complex will be located between the Catalina Marketing Corp. and the Transamerica Financial Advisors offices. Transamerica owns the property.

opgolf is known for its microchip-equipped golf balls and climate-controlled hitting bays. It boasts a large food and drinks menu, along with walls of high-definition televisions, pool and foosball tables, an outdoor terrace and special event spaces.

Topgolf says the St. Petersburg location will hire 400 full- and part-time workers throughout the next year.
