RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Yuengling plans mixed-use redevelopment on Tampa brewery property The Pottsville, Pennsylvania-based brewery on May 3 filed rezoning plans with the city that would make way for new development on the north and west ends of the brewery property. The existing brewery will not change, according to the plans filed with the city.
The rezoning application requests two waivers from the city, one in regard to the removal of grand trees on the property and another for a reduction in loading berths.
Here's a breakdown of the types of development Yuengling could pursue on its property:
Yuengling has had a Tampa presence since 1999, when it acquired the former Stroh Brewery Co. facility. It sits on more than 43 acres.
If the plans come to fruition, it would be a win for the long-struggling area surrounding USF, now known as the city's "Uptown" district. Another major redevelopment, the repositioning of the former University Mall into a mixed-use, medical research-focused village, is also in the works.
"As consumer interest in locally crafted beer continues to grow, we are always looking for ways to engage our loyal fans and re-envision the Yuengling experience in Tampa,†Wendy Yuengling, chief administrative officer, said in a statement. "This new development will not only offer visitors an enhanced brewery hospitality experience but will also increase our presence in the local community.â€
The brewery has been on a mission to raise its profile in Tampa in recent years, buying the naming rights to the former USF Sun Dome and using Tampa as one of six pre-launch markets for its first new brew in 17 years, a golden pilsner that was released in 2018.
The rezoning hearing before city council is slated for Sept. 12.
