Tampa Bay homeowners don't keep their homes as long as people do in many other parts of the country.

According to the real estate site ATTOM Data Solutions, owners of bay area homes sold in the first three months of this year had stayed in them an average of 7.7 years. Nationally, the figure was just over eight years.

Among major population areas, those with the longest average homeownership tenure were Hartford, Conn. (12.52 years), Boston (12.36 years), Providence, R.I. (11.15 years), San Francisco (10.40) years and San Jose, Calif. (10.27 years). Contact Susan Taylor Martin at smartin@tampabay.com or (727) 893-8642. Follow @susanskate.
