Demolition finally begins on old office building at Midtown Tampa

The demolition of an old office building on the Midtown Tampa property is finally complete. The five-story building came down shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

As of 2:25 p.m., one corner of the five-story structure had given way. The demolition was originally slated to take 30 seconds on Sunday morning, but the building proved tougher than expected for excavators to pull down.

Midtown Tampa is a 22-acre mixed-use development at the interchange of North Dale Mabry Highway and Interstate 275. It is slated to include 1.8 million square feet of development, including apartments, retail, office space and a movie theater.
