RETURN TO NEWS INDEX USAA plans major expansion of Tampa campus The financial services giant said Wednesday that it is building a 240,000-square-foot new office building at Crosstown Center. The new building means room for up to 1,000 additional employees, bringing USAA's capacity in Tampa to nearly 4,500 employees, the company said.
The building is slated for completion in 2019. USAA is also expanding in Plano, Texas, with a 150,000-square-foot building on an existing campus there.
"Tampa has been a great market for us, and we are thrilled to be expanding our presence in the region,†said Yvette Segura, USAA vice president and general manager in Tampa, in a statement. "Our growth here is part of our broader commitment to improve the products and services we offer our members and strengthen our reputation as a great place to work.â€
In 2013, Hillsborough County Commissioners approved an incentive package to entice USAA to expand here, with the expectation that USAA would create up to 1,215 new jobs and spend $164.3 million in capital investment by 2019. The first phase of Crosstown Center opened in 2015.
U SAA's first campus in Tampa, Commerce Center, opened in 1993 and is 500,000 square feet.
Its total workforce in Tampa is 3,600 square feet.
USAA's expansion in Tampa represents the vast majority of new office construction in this region in the last five years: custom-built space for a single tenant. An office campus for Tampa-based Laser Spine Institute was developed near Tampa International Airport.
