10 big new commercial real estate developments around the Southeast

Commercial real estate development is booming around the Southeast. Here's a look at 10 big new projects reported by American City Business Journals. Check out the adjacent slideshow to see images of each project.

In Miami, Hines announced plans May 22 to build a 600,000-square-foot office tower at Miami Worldcenter, the 27-acre mixed-use project under development on the north side of downtown Miami.The 45-story tower would be the largest office tower completed in Miami's Central Business District since 2010

In Raleigh, North Carolina, Pittsburgh-based FNB, the parent company of First National Bank, unveiled plans on May 23 to occupy a new 22-story office and residential high-rise.

In Miami, the North Miami Beach City Commission on June 8 unanimously approved a 19-story mixed-use project called 5 Park, an 862,217-square-foot project featuring apartments, office and retail.

In Nashville, a developer from Dallas has latched onto one of the biggest hotel projects in Nashville's real estate boom - a deal that could put more than 700 hotel rooms across the street from the city's Music City Center convention facility. Atlanta investor Five Star Realty Partners is involved in the project.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, the newest building designed by Atlanta's John Portman & Associates opened in May.

In Chapel Hill, North Carolina, developers plan to begin construction soon on the Carraway Village mixed-use development project, which could build up to 935,000 square feet of new multifamily, retail and commercial building space with as many as 23 vertically integrated, low- and mid-rise buildings.

In Hollywood, Florida, developers have just obtained a $115 million construction loan to complete the Hyde Beach House condo and condo-hotel project.

In Huntsville, Alabama, construction is now underway on a project called MidCity Huntsville, a 100-acre development that will include retail, office space and residential units.

In Greensboro, North Carolina, Gemcap Cos. and Carolina Investment Properties plan to develop a nine-story tower next to the home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

In Orlando, Florida, the city on June 5 approved a masterplan for a new $90 million, 15-story mixed-use student housing project.
