Kimmins Contracting Corp. will meet with subcontractors who want a piece of its $35 million infrastructure improvement project for Strategic Property Partners.

SPP, the real estate company controlled by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik and Cascade Investment LLC, said Thursday that it and Kimmins will hold an informational meeting for subcontractors at 4 p.m. June 23 in the Port Tampa Bay boardroom at 1101 Channelside Drive.

SPP hired Kimmins as the general contractor in March.

The infrastructure project, slated to begin this summer pending city council approval, includes the following improvements:

  • Conversion of Channelside Drive from Meridian to Jefferson Street from a one-way, eastbound only roadway into a two-way roadway
  • Extension of Old Water Street north from Channelside Drive to Cumberland Avenue, creating a new north-south connection throughout the project area
  • Addition of new on-street parking and bike lanes
  • Streetscape enhancements including wide sidewalks for the pedestrian experience as well as to allow for outdoor dining and gathering opportunities
  • Improved street lighting
  • Installation of new water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure

The construction will be the first visible signs of a $2 billion mixed-use district SPP is planning between downtown Tampa and the Channel district. It is slated to include residential, retail, hospitality and office space.
