Related Group fast tracks Tribune redevelopment, plans to include restaurant space

In addition to residential units, a Miami developer plans to include space for a restaurant on the Tampa Tribune's real estate.

Related Group is asking the city to rezone the Tribune's 4.4-acre site at 202 S. Parker St. to accommodate 400 residential units and a 10,000-square-foot restaurant space, according to city documents filed Monday. The eight-story residential building will line the riverfront, while a six-story parking garage will be built on the western portion of the property.

Related says in its application to the city that it anticipates full buildout in 2017. That means that the razing of the Tribune's office building will occur sooner rather than later, if the rezoning request is granted and Related moves forward with its plans.

A Related executive previously told TBBJ that the company plans to close on the property in early 2016, and that it is negotiating a sales-leaseback with the Tribune, to give the paper time to figure out what to do with its printing presses, which are housed on the site.

Tribune publisher Brian Burns recently told Columbia Journalism Review that he is " actively looking at outside partners to print us and looking at the financial feasibility of moving the presses.”

The site is directly across the Hillsborough River from the former Trump site, where Feldman Equities Inc. CEO Larry Feldman is planning a 52-story mixed-use tower with residential, office and retail components.
