Downtown St. Pete's newest condo tower breaks ground

A condominium tower with ground-floor retail has broken ground in downtown St. Petersburg.

The Salvador is under construction on Dali Boulevard at Second Street and Fifth Avenue South. It will be 74 units in 13 stories with 3,000 square feet of retail space.

Construction should be complete in the fourth quarter of 2016. The units are priced from $345,000 to $1.4 million, and "nearly 50 percent" of the units were presold, according to a statement from the developer, Tampa-based DDA Development. Smith & Associates began marketing the condos in October.

The Salvador is the latest in a flurry of residential development in downtown St. Pete. Bliss, an 18-story tower, recently broke ground, and plans are in the works for One, a 41-story condo tower with an adjacent 13-story hotel.

That residential growth has drawn bars, restaurants and retailers to the area, creating a vibrant urban waterfront and walkable business district. Between the entertainment and living options, downtown St. Pete is becoming a destination for businesses as well, as more decision-makers want to locate their companies in a live-work-play environment.
