100-year-old Bayshore Boulevard mansion listed for sale at $13.9 million

A storied Bayshore Boulevard estate known locally as the Stovall-Lee house is on the market for $13.9 million.

Jennifer Zales, a sales associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, listed 4621 Bayshore Blvd. for sale on Monday. Built around 1909 by L.T. Tousdale, then general manager of the Florida Brewing Company in Ybor City, the property was owned by Tampa Tribune founding publisher Wallace Stovall from 1915 to 1943.

Stovall sold the home to William E. Lee, and the family had it added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The 8,900-square-foot estate, on 2.6 acres, isn't visible from the road. It has six bedrooms and 9.5 bathrooms, and the property includes a guest house, fitness and service building, pavilion, conservatory and pergola.

The seller, Harry E. Teasley Jr., was president and chief operating officer of Coca-Cola. He purchased the property in 1991.

Prices are rising in Tampa Bay's mansion market, driven by an influx of new buyers and few properties on the market. If the estate sells for even close to asking price, it will almost certainly be among the highest-priced home sales in 2015. The top home sale in 2014 was a $10 million Sarasota mansion.

The interior includes nods to the estate's 100-year-old history: it "features the original mahogany and cypress moldings, some of the original leaded windows, antique chandeliers and extensive custom trompe l'oeil paintings by Savannah, Georgia, artist Bob Christian," according to Coldwell Banker.

"This estate is unlike any other in the area,” Zales said in a statement. "While there are many great waterfront properties on the market in Tampa, it is a rarity to find a home here with this much historical significance. The property is magnificent on its own - it's the largest residential property on Bayshore north of Gandy - but when you consider its history, you realize that it's truly one of a kind.”
