A Siesta Key estate that fronts the Gulf of Mexico has been sold for $5.55 million or more than $660 per square foot.

The sale of the 8,395-square-foot mansion is the highest priced home sold so far this year in Sarasota County, according to brokerage firm Michael Saunders & Co. The home was listed by two Michael Saunders agents: Marcia Salkin and Stacy Hanan.

Joel Schemmel of Premier Sotheby's represented the buyer.

A deed for the transaction has not been filed. Sarasota County property records list the seller as Mary Sue Karp. Karp and her late husband, Arthur, paid $1.97 million for the home in 1993.

In 2014, the highest priced home sold in the Bay region was in Sarasota, at $10.25 million.

Built in 1987, the home includes a two-story living room, waterfront master suite with its own fireplace and balcony, a study with a carved mahogany fireplace and a resort style pool and spa.
