Big new apartment development moving forward in Ybor City

A large new apartment development is moving forward in Ybor City.

Framework Group LLC has filed documents with the city seeking the Barrio Latino Commission's approval for 234 apartments at 1512 E 12th Ave. in Ybor City, on a city-owned parcel just south of Interstate 4.

The property is about two blocks east of Ybor's Hillsborough Community College campus. Renderings of the apartments show a four-story complex.

The City Council has already signed off on the sale of that land to Framework.

Tampa has seen a boom in urban infill apartment construction throughout 2014, with new construction under way in Channelside, Harbour Island and South Tampa, as well as some in the planning phases in the urban core. Framework Group is developing the apartment tower on Harbour Island.

Ybor City and Seminole Heights, too, have started to see multifamily construction, though it's been in small projects of 50 units or less. More than 230 units at once would bring hundreds of residents to Ybor and help create the density needed for urban vibrancy.
