Hillsborough commission eyeing land for sports complex

Hillsborough County commissioners said they are ready to begin searching for land for a new multi-million dollar amateur sports complex.

The county has $15 million to put toward the multi-field project and is seeking bids from companies that could build and operate the fields, the Tampa Tribune said. Commissioner will take up the idea at a Dec. 3 meeting.

"The thinking is the private sector can likely construct this facility cheaper than the county can do it," Commissioner Ken Hagan said. "Everything will be on the table, from land purchase to design and building to maintaining and operations."

The site will require 80 to 100 acres to accommodate 16 fields, seating, parking and concession stands, the Tribune said.
