Developer restarting long-dormant New Port Tampa Bay project near Gandy and Westshore

A South Tampa marina and condo project could be getting started again as a Fort Lauderdale development company says it is ready to resurrect New Port Tampa Bay south of Gandy Boulevard on Westshore Boulevard.

BTI Partners from Florida's east coast acquired the title for 51 acres of the former New Port Tampa Bay project at Bridge Street and Gandy Boulevard, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The developer is still investigating options for the best use of the property, but most speculate a mixed-use development with residential and retail would do well in that location, which also has some street frontage on Gandy Boulevard.

"There actually (are) some condo parties interested in the project, lots of retail is interested, what with that location having frontage on both Westshore and Gandy," BTI Vice President Beck Daniel told the Times. "The Tampa multifamily (rental) market is very strong right now.''

This property has been bogged down in lawsuits and foreclosures since cranes were in the air over the site in 2006.
