Work restarts on long dormant South Tampa project

Developers has restarted work on custom townhomes south of the Gandy Bridge after more than five year of delays.

The project in the area of Rattlesnake Point off Kissimmee Street was stopped during the housing crash, according to a report from Bay News 9. Now, developer ODC Construction says, the market is rebounding, particularly in South Tampa. "South Tampa is an area that we're concentrating on right now," said David Haines of ODC Construction. "There's a lot of energy here."

Mayor Bob Buckhorn said the city of Tampa has issued more than $2 billion in permits for new construction during the current fiscal year, Bay News 9 said. The number is a new record.

"This number is important, and it's more than symbolic. Permit number and project values indicate that Tampa is growing, people are investing in our community, and new jobs are being created in the process,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

"This is a testament to those who believe Tampa's capacity as a great city, and more good things are coming.”
